A funny thing happened on our way to developing the American quick bread repertoire. We took a turn away from the early plain, hearty, non-sweet recipes (Irish soda bread and baking powder biscuits are examples), and headed down a path toward sweeter, fancier, more cake-like creations. Gummy Bear Chewy Fruit Mini Strudels - This is sometimes referred to as "haimish strudel" or dried fruit strudel and is a holiday delicacy that is a cross between a confection and a pastry.

Raspberry Brown Sugar Bars - Ultra sweet squares, nicely broken up by the zing of raspberries and buttery pecans. This is a very contemporary but still fruity baked goodie, perfect for hosting a Tu Bishvat get together.

Tu Bishvat Plum Tart - A sophisticated, plumy pastry offering. Plums add vibrant color to the winter dessert table. To make this pareve, use water to replace the cream.
